What is screen printing?
1. Start with an original painting, full of inspiration and vision.
2. Break it down into individual colours. Each colour gets its own silk screen.
3. Then imagine a sheet of paper going through the press one at a time. Layer by layer as each colour adds a piece to the puzzle.
It is a process that combines patience and artistry, building up the final image on layer at a time until it is complete.
What kind of paper is the screen print printed on?
Fabriano Artistico paper. 100% cotton. No bleach. No acid. Eight centuries of Italian papermaking expertise in every sheet.
This isn’t about being precious. It’s about longevity.
When you’re putting 15+ hours into hand-separating colours, when Artrite Screen Printing is executing at museum-quality standards, when a collector is making an investment, the paper matters.
It’ll outlive us all. That’s the point.
Quality matters when you’re putting this much into a piece.

The difference between a poster or a photographic print and a screen print is about 15 hours of meticulous hand separation work.
Then multiple days on the screen print machine.
Every Sam Leitch print begins as an original painting and is rebuilt through hand separated color layers. No shortcuts, no automation, just true craftsmanship that preserves the painterly depth collectors value.

What they have to say
-
Sam has dedicated his life to exploring his creative passions, spending hours every day at his craft. There are hints of pop art, surrealist expression, and an undeniable affininity for Picasso and Jean Micheal Basquiat.
-
While many are already aware of Whenuapai-based artist Sam Leitch's potential - this colour-filled pieces and subtle local references have drawn comparison to the work of New Zealand painting greats Bill Hammond and Dick Frizzel - he's certainly not a show pony when put in the spotlight.
-
A contemporary artist with talent to spare, Sam Leitch createes transcendently surreal arworks. (...) Painting nearly every day in multiple-hour blocks, it is a true testament to Sam's passion and dedication to his career. It is no wonder his artworks are so intoxicating to view.
